London’s finest new hotel
Resembling stylish grandeur at its best, The Peninsula London is London’s newest and most prestigious hotel located in the heart of Belgravia. Comprising 190 guest rooms, the hotel has been designed and appointed to embody the finest British craftsmanship. World-class dining and drinks are enjoyed throughout stylishly refined restaurants, bars and lounges including the hotel’s signature rooftop restaurant, Brooklands, home to Michelin-starred Chef Director Claude Bosi, and Canton Blue offering innovative Chinese cuisine.
The project
Hycom was commissioned to work on a total of 127 rooms to create long-lasting, hygienic and aesthetically pleasing settings. To do this, we installed 8000m2 of Altro wall cladding and flooring products across these areas.
The flagship hygienic wall cladding solution, Altro Whiterock White, was installed with a welded finish in almost every area. With its proven high performance, this is an impact-resistant, impermeable, grout-free, easy-to-maintain alternative to tiles. The pure white finish made it a favourite for the kitchen, stores and bathroom areas. In spaces designed in neutral colour schemes, a further two Altro wall cladding ranges were used: Whiterock Satins provided a sophisticated satin finish in the colours Flint, Day Break and Scarlett; the glossy alternative of the Chameleon range in the colours Moulin Rouge and Sheer Glass added vibrance.
Three different ranges of Altro’s vinyl flooring products were used throughout the project. Chosen for its design to minimise risk in wet and greasy conditions, Altro Stronghold 30 in the colour Monsoon was used across a large majority of areas. Comfortable under foot and resistant to wear and tear from shoes, Altro Aquarius in the colour Puffin was installed in restroom areas. Perfect for areas where hard-wearing, cleanable and stain-resistant products are essential, Altro Reliance in the colour Ice Rink was installed in kitchen circulation rooms.
Applying our learned knowledge
Across the project, product specification was led mainly by Altro, however, we were pleased to offer our expert guidance at every opportunity to add further value. For example, upon our recommendation Visedge was selected for multiple cold store doors. Visedge aluminium trims are used to ensure that the joint between two different types of flooring remains impermeable, flat, hygienic and permanent.
The layout of the sheets was vitally important in every room to create the most aesthetically pleasing finish, something which is key in an establishment like The Peninsula London. Using Computer Aided Design (CAD), we were able to show the exact location of where each sheet would be installed.
“It was such a pleasure to get involved in a project from the design stage, working closely throughout with a set of architects and a customer that loved the details as much as Hycom. Detailing the positioning of each joint ensuring each room has a nice feeling was indeed a rare pleasure. The Hotel is a triumph in function and feel.” - Gavin Flynn, Managing Director - Hycom.
