Delivering hygiene and safety with traditional charm

Nestled in the Gloucestershire countryside, The Crown Inn in Lea is a cherished historic pub with deep local roots. After 25 years under tenancy, the pub has been lovingly reclaimed by its original owners - the Savidge family - who run the surrounding farmland. Embracing its heritage, they have carried out a full refurbishment, restoring The Crown Inn to its traditional charm whilst elevating it into a high-spec country restaurant and bar.

The project

Hycom was brought on board to consult, supply, and install specialist flooring and wall cladding solutions for the kitchen, bar and toilet areas, with a focus on safety, hygiene, and visual appeal.

In the kitchen and garden bar kitchen, Altro Stronghold 30 was specified. With Altro’s highest slip-resistance rating, this flooring is engineered to reduce the risk of slips in demanding environments where grease, oils and fats are common. It’s a robust, reliable choice - perfect for the challenges of a busy commercial kitchen. On the edges of the stairs, Gradus nosings were used - a product which further reduces the risk of slippages and accidents.

For the toilets, the flooring needed to strike a balance between practical performance and stylish continuity with the pub’s carefully designed interiors. Altro Wood Safety in Bavarian Oak was selected, a biophilic, warm-toned finish that delivers on both fronts. This homely, wood-effect floor not only offers excellent slip resistance and ease of cleaning, but it also beautifully complements the tongue-and-groove wall panelling, helping to create a welcoming, cohesive feel throughout the space.

In the garden bar kitchen, Hycom Whitewall wall cladding was used to provide a cost effective, maintenance free choice with a 25 year life expectancy.
