Mandatory Training to use Adhesives

From the 24th August 2023, anyone who uses products containing diisocyanates professionally, are required to undertake training. This mandatory training is required by law, in order to ensure that these products are used safely.

This new legislation has been introduced by REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals) which is the main legislation to protect human health and the environment from the risks that can be posed by chemicals.

Some of the risks of regular, untrained use of diisocyanates are as follows:

  • Respiratory Effects (Irritation, Inflammation & Respiratory Sensitization)
  • Skin Effects (Dermal Irritation & Dermatitis)
  • Carcinogenicity (Heightened risk of Cancer)

The trade associations in the industry, ISOPA and ALIPA have created a website, which has useful information about the changes in legislation http://www.safeusediisocyanates.eu./

What products does it apply to?

The full list of products this applies to can be found here: https://www.safeusediisocyanates.eu/reachlegislation

In particular, it applies to the following Altro products:

  • AltroFix A19 plus
  • AltroFix W139
  • Solfre 3120
  • Altro Crete
  • Altro Flexiflow
  • Altro Seal Water based UVR

Information about training courses

There are 3 levels of training:

  • Basic Training (Level 1)
  • Intermediate Training (Level 2)
  • Advanced Training (Level 3)

Once on the website, you can use the charts to establish which training is appropriate for you.

The module required for professional floor layers is #049. This training is a web-based self-learning programme which takes around 40 minutes to complete. You can find it here https://isopa-aisbl.idloom.events/049
