Creating Cleaner and Safer Toilets for Everyone

Who would have thought there was a World Toilet Day? Well, there is! Every year on 19th November, this international observance day highlights the importance of safe, clean and accessible toilets for all, and brings attention to the lack of toilets for billions of people globally. Whilst much of the focus is rightly on global sanitation challenges, we thought this was the perfect opportunity to reflect on how Hycom helps to create hygienic washrooms closer to home.

At Hycom, we’ve delivered countless toilet and washroom installations across the UK, in schools, hospitals, leisure facilities, retail sites and public spaces. We know what is required to create hygienic, durable spaces that look good too.

Why choose hygienic wall cladding and flooring for washrooms?

Toilets and washrooms are typically high-moisture environments which receive high levels of traffic. Traditional finishes such as tiles or painted plaster often struggle to keep up, with grout lines, cracked surfaces and ongoing maintenance issues.

That’s where hygienic wall cladding and vinyl flooring come in. These systems are designed specifically for wet and demanding spaces, offering both performance and peace of mind.

The benefits include:

  • Seamless, easy-to-clean surfaces: No grout or joints for dirt and bacteria to collect in, ensuring faster and more effective cleaning.
  • Long-term durability: Resistant to moisture, impact and regular cleaning, with a lifespan far beyond traditional finishes.
  • Improved hygiene: Creates a watertight, non-porous surface that supports infection control and everyday cleanliness.
  • A smart, modern look: Available in a wide range of colours and finishes to suit any design style.

Transforming toilets of every type

From public conveniences and commercial washrooms to staff toilets and school facilities, our installation teams have completed a wide range of projects where hygiene and durability are essential.

One of our most high-profile installations was completed at BBC Studioworks in London, where we delivered a modern, high-performance washroom environment to suit the demands of a busy broadcasting facility. Read more about the project here.

We’ve also completed a series of installations for LNER train stations, using Altro Whiterock Wall Designs to transform standard public toilets into striking, design-led spaces that make a strong impression on all who pass through.

Our work at The Crown in Gloucestershire features high-end finishes that create a warm, country feel (full story here) whilst at Trecco Bay Holiday Park in Wales, we installed sleek, contemporary washroom areas to complement the modern holiday park aesthetic.

In all our projects we take pride in delivering:

  • Expert installation for a perfect, long-lasting finish
  • Specification and design advice based on years of learned knowledge
  • Reliable, on-time project delivery with minimal disruption

Our goal is to make every washroom a clean, safe and welcoming environment for the people who use it, and for those who maintain it.
